Return of the Radiator

I picked up my radiator from Radiator King this afternoon. I had it re-cored with a 3-row core, so now the car should run as cool as a cucumber. The workmanship is excellent. It cost $250, $100 of which was labor, the cost of which should vary regionally. The shop also flushed and pressure tested my heater core, and it is in fine condition. I plan to give both a coat of black radiator paint.

Comments:
Looks good. Did you have to repaint that as well (seeing that it looks all shiny and new)? Pretty cool that they could do all that for $250. What do you for the parts that are No Longer Available? Are there shops like the dash ones that specialize in restorations that could somehow make those parts for you?

Anyway, looking good! :-D

I asked them NOT to paint the radiator. I have some special black radiator paint on order that should arrive any day. I wanted to avoid them using a thicker paint or doing a sloppy job (not that they necessary would, but they may) by painting both the rad and the heater core myself. You need to use a special radiator paint that is thick enough to cover but thin enough to not inhibit the transfer of heat, which is the function of the radiator.

As for the parts that are NLA, there are a couple of options. There are some specialized roadster parts vendors out there that have sources for parts, either they have inventory of "new old stock" (NOS) parts they have just collected over the years or they have arranged for the manufacture of reproduction parts that are duplicates of the originals or sometimes even improvements. Or sometimes you get lucky and find a roadster owner who has spare parts lying around and will give you a deal. I've found a couple such deals on my headrests and carb-spacer blocks. Luckily, in my experience most of the parts are still available from Nissan and reasonably priced, with a few notable exceptions.
